'm chris hayes, the white house today got the best news it has had in two months about obama care. we will bring that news to you in a moment as well as the president's latest push to get young people to enroll. but it has always been the case, the political fate of obama care would rest ultimately on its performance, what it did for people's lives and not on the lies and slander directed at it from the right. and while the smears deployed against it get shorter and shorter we have the latest example. did you hear about the guy whose baby was denied coverage under obama care? >> those family plan quotes included myself, my wife, our 7, 5, and 7-year-old, and 18 month-old was left off. the response was no, they don't allow family plans under the age of 8. >> this guy tried to sign his family up for insurance on the new york state exchange and they refused to enroll his 18 month-old baby? obama care is anti-toddler? the story, as you might imagine, got a lot of pickup in the right wing media. the post surfaced again and again all over conservative press and of course landed distraught f

of governance. >> the challenges with the obama care role out continue, california is making headway. >> since october 1st, about 80,000 people have enrolled in private insurance through the state's exchange. meanwhile, california republicans have been reduced to creating prank websites to prey upon their own constituents desperately seeks out information about health insurance. >> we reached out to all of the members of the assembly and state signal. two california republicans agreed to come on the show and logistics on in the way. joining me now is karen bass. she knows her way around the state's politics. i'm amazed this existed. this is one of those rare times when a headline captured how truly ridiculous a story was. can you believe they did this? >> you know what, this is exactly as you described it, an incredibly new low. but i think that it is an example of desperation. in california, you know that the state is 100% behind covered california in making sure that the affordable care act is implemented. for them to lower themselves to this level i'm shocked, and i'm shocked at the republi

he's president. i thought he made the moral case for obama care, for you folks to consider obama care as a measure of community in america. that's what motivates barack obama. he knows it's tough. >> the last 15 minutes of this interview were great. i thought he made a very compelling case for his own decency. whatever the screw ups were manageri managerially. >> in the first half of that interview, you saw a man who was incredibly frustrated by what he sees as the smallness of the debate in washington. or we boil it down to petty fights, frustrated incredibly with the republicans and the media. but in the second half of the interview, i saw the man i met in 2004, where he was an activist using politics to move forward, somebody who really is in league or in line with the way the pope feels about social justice. i think you saw him stripped away from the presidency to that guy. >> why did that happen? is it the bad poll numbers that faced him to be damn it, i'm going to be who i am. >> he is very self-reflective as he is prone to be. i don't know if this is a negative spin on this. ma
